"But I don't buy the logic that just because malpractice lawsuits may be a patient's only recourse, it should not be subject to reform."

Where did I saw that?

Oh yeah, the straw man thing again...

I am not saying it doesn't need to be reformed. But, simple caps isn't a good way unless you figure out another way to take care of those people who are damaged for life.

"It isn't to fix the medical practice. Instead, it's to get as much money for themselves and their clients."

I never claimed the lawyers would fix the system. They can't and it isn't their job. The system needs to change so that the lawyers can't get that kind of work. Until they do, there will be lawyers and malpractice suits. And making it impossible for plaintiffs to get the money they need for care after being damaged by an incompetent isn't justice.

"Filing a lawsuit is as easy as walking off a cliff"

This really isn't true. Most plaintiff's attorneys charge nothing and make their money from the settlements, but, only if they win. Consequently, despite your rightwingnut lore, they don't TAKE baseless lawsuits. They don't even take lawsuits where they think there is a valid claim, but they don't have a very good chance of winning. There are consequences for the attorney and the plaintiff if a baseless, junk lawsuit is filed.

I know a few plaintiff's attorneys..

re: After all, look at the motives of the trial lawyer. It isn't to fix the medical practice. Instead, it's to get as much money for themselves and their clients.

Hum. So now you are against the profit motive? Trial lawyers should be above capitalism, while everyone else wallows in it? You hate trial lawyers because they are "ambulance chasers", but it is OK for Intel to do everything they can to get business away from AMD?

I smell a double standard. Based on ideology, as usual.
