We're not going to agree, so we may as well leave it at that.

Lose your job for year, go through a divorce, a major medical expense, or any two major events and you can easily join the rand of the forever poor.

Naaah. First off, the majority of our "poor" are 18+year-olds, including students, starting out. A constantly changing group of people, most of whom end up middle-class and a few end up rich.

The ones who you list in your group above rarely stay "poor." They get back on their financial feet.

Excluding the disabled, the real "poor" are there because they want to be, whither they will admit it or not. You want to get out of poverty?

1) Take a job, any job, show up on time, do as you are told and keep your mouth shut.
2) Don't become a drunk or a drug user.
3) Don't commit crimes.
4) Marry your pregnant girlfriend.

All of these things are things YOU have to do. The State can't do them for you. Or force you to do them.
