Did you and I live in the same house without knowing it?

What a great way to express those days, Andrew! Yes, I think most of us who were born in the "Sandwich Generation - between 1935-1946", and actually, I think from about 1930-1946 would be more accurate - actually were living in the same house.

We didn't know we were poor, or a step above, by today's standards anyway. We ALWAYS had plenty of soap and water. Our houses were always clean. And so were the kids in it. The folks would have skinned us if we didn't keep ourselves clean and tidy, both in body and mind.

We felt great....we felt like we could be any profession we wanted to be, if we were smart enough....we could play, and be kids, but also knew how to work, and work hard. Chores were expected, and we didn't question doing them ... (very often anyhow)... Our families didn't try to keep up with the Jones family down the street. We let the Jones' try to be as nice and polite as we were. Most kids knew the neighborhood rules, and most of us kept those rules in mind. None of us wanted to hear from our parents if some adult reported to them we were disobedient.

We didn't know the "good ole' days" were really the Good Ole' Days.

But I love that there is Internet today. And the convenience of a cell phone. And that we can take great pics without film. Plus having a dishwasher, refridge, washingmachine and dryer, PLUS a car or two (or more...heh)....

The difference is, we (most of our generation) realize that we are fortunate indeed, and there has been NO good fairy giving us anything except the Opportunity to earn our own way.
