I think there are many reasons people don't vote. Apathy, indecision, confusion, a belief their one little vote won't matter anyway. That last one may be the biggest factor. Think of it this way, what is the chance that my vote will decide the next election? Pretty close to zero. Lots of people therefore think, why bother?

I've always voted except when traveling. My wife though doesn't bother half the time and when she does she asks me who she should vote for. She doesn't pay close attention to national events and a lot of people don't. My grandparents seldom voted either.

That's a REALLY good question, kumar.

why does 50% decide not to vote ?

Some people are basically lazy, some don't want to, some don't know enough history and/or current events to understand it is a privilege, and one that was hard fought to guarantee citizens the right to vote.
