Thanks again, KLP. I read your last with both pleasure and pain. Your story re: Buddy touched me greatly. You see, I have a beloved Basenji, Mr. B. He is almost thirteen years old. He is a daily delight and I cannot imagine life without him. He has been my 'buddy' now for so many years that I dread the day when he joins your Buddy and others in that special heaven reserved for dogs.

Several years ago, Mr. B developed diabetes. I inject insulin twice a day now to keep his blood sugar under control. Insulin in dogs usually leads to cataracts. Such was the case with Mr. B. We took him to a vet specializing in animal vision who removed the cataracts and replaced his lenses with artificial lenses. Mr. B's sight returned and he has since resumed his favorite past-time: chasing squirrels. I could not bear the thought of his living out his final years blind.

As for my mother and those nylons: I knew that she really wanted them and also that she loved me for using my hard earned pennies to buy them for her. We were friends before then and for long after. She had many pairs of nylons after that but I like to think that none of them pleased her more than my first gift to her.

Thanks for your posting. I really appreciate it.
