Take a stop sign...its only a symbol but it makes most people stop even if there are no cars comming. Accidents happen at stop signs because people ignore the symbol and think that they are in controll of the situation...... they dont see that car comming. People fuck up. Groups of people cant make vital decisions quickly without a leader. There will always be those in the group who dont like a particular leader, pehaps only because he is jewish. A symbol of authority can overcome that, all too human, reluctance to follow somebody else. Yes , symbols can be used for good or evil or stupid. Without them people ,being what they are, would run rampant. A card board copy of a cop really works, weather for speeding or shoplifting
