"So what? "

So there is no benefit in crying over spilled milk. There is benefit in dealing responsibly with the realities of current circumstance. Currently Iraq has a freely elected government and a large military force, still in development. The current government is threatened by radical fundamentalists from outside and from insurgent extremist groups from within the population.

We may see a future in which the government of Iraq is a stabilized democratic nation. We could also see regional genocide if the current government fails. With the former we can expect a reasonably modern nation offering benefits to the global community. With the latter we have extremist forces taking over and developing super power war machines of their own. What ever outcome is achieved it will define a relationship and involvement for the rest of us in the near future. IOW the idea that we can just 'leave' is a myth.

Doesn't change the past. You need to stop obsessing about the past. Bet you're still mad Gore wasn't elected in 2000.
