I agree with your post. The hard part now is to understand the foreign policy that guides our actions -- and to change it to be more in keeping with our ideals, our values, our goals and our capabilities. We are capable of so much, and yet we are doing so much harm and not much good. This must change.

Like AQ didn't exist before and has no ideology of its own. Which came first, 9/11 or Iraq?

You can say we provided a target of convenience and a rallying cry for AQ if you like. But please do not say that they wouldn't exist without us, or wouldn't have plans of their own. It wasn't OBL's plan to have no followup for 9/11 for five, six years. You can bet that AQ's energy would have flowed in another direction without Iraq.
