Think of Daniel Pearl. Think of why we have Secret Service protection for Presidents and even for candidates. Then think about many high-level meetings that had discussions about location, shape of table, etc. (and I am sure, security, and press and media coverage) before commencing. Then think about "If we know who we are, if we know what we stand for, then we shouldn't be afraid to meet anybody because we'll tell 'em what we believe and what makes this country great. They may not like what we have to say, but we're going to go ahead and speak to 'em about those issues." You have to have preconditions.
