the great majority of Americans support civilized democratic Israel. I believe that the great majority of Americans are indifferent to Israel, and are highly ignorant of it. We support it the way we support Thailand, seems like a fine place, and who really cares because it sure is far, far away! Most Americans don't even have a passport. If Americans were asked "Do you support the policy of country A which allows the people of one and only one ethnic group to immigrate from anywhere on the planet to country A and gain the benefits of citizenship in country A, but this policy also denies the same citizenship to people born and raised in land controlled by country A solely because they are not in the preferred ethnic group of country A?" you'd get 98% of Americans opposed (if the grammar in the question was simplified!). Americans like to think of all men created equal, and not as one ethnic group entitled to something simply because of the religion of their mother.
