There is a possiblity that we get to a 2 state solution with the shia iranian protectorate in the south and a kurdish/sunni/shiaa multiethnic solution in the other areas. Yes there will be some population movements. Turks will be happy. Sunnis will have oil from kurd area and not have to beg iran/shiaa for cash. All of this presupposes the death of al quaeda in iraq and the survival of al sadr in the south. Hopefully there can be a bagdad and environs solution acceptable to all sides.

I know, the guys in A-P talk up Iraq. Sure, it suits them well. They send people over there to kill Americans, incite civil war between two brands of infidel Muslims, make the US look silly.

So if they send enough people, talk it up enough, declare an emirate, declare the global jihad, fight the US, fight the Iraqis, and yet lose, then they look silly. This is much to be wished for.

Remember the War of the Narratives. It's important, and AQ has been quicker to realize it than we.

But it keeps the heat off them at very little cost, compared to what it would have been if those 130,000-150,000 soldiers were in A-P.

What is so great in Waziristan to protect? A few leaders hiding out, a few troops? Waziristan is the back of beyond, that's why it's been their haven. It's been safe. That's changing now & I certainly agree we should press them there as much as possible. But no way do you need a whole Army for that - you need the cooperation of Pakistan's army (finally obtained) plus American forces. Without Pakistani cooperation nothing was going to happen.

They didn't pick Waziristan because there was anything there they wanted. They want the ancient Arab capitals and oil. These things are in Iraq, Syria, the Gulf and Saudi Arabia. Not Waziristan.

It's a big mistake to over-focus on one or two men in a networked organization. Ask yourself, where is the trained officer core operating right now? and what are their strategic goals? That is a far more important question.
