"Folks like ohanlen pollack and joe klein say progress is real Will you be upset if they are right and you are wrong."

Michael, I'll be happy when it's over if we can point to something that ended up better than it would have been had we not gone. I don't see that happening.

In the meantime, what is the "real progress" that they're talking about. Is it the fact that there's a temporary truce between the US and certain Sunni forces that are benefiting from the "peace?"

Or is it big-picture progress that will resolve the Shiite/Sunni clash, unravel the shift toward radical Islam in Iraq, create a more tolerant and just society and allow Iraq to join the civilized, peaceful nations of the world. Nothing they said in the editorial was encouraging from that aspect.

We've been losing more and more soldiers and the underlying fractures and sores are not healing, and will not heal based on any "surge" success.

If you're slipping off the end of the rope with no means of stopping your slide, the rate of slippage doesn't really matter, does it?

So, at this point I'm not looking to any victory but I'd certainly be happy with any "progress" that meant less of our soldiers getting dead while we step closer to that point where we get the hell out. Ed
