they were Zoroastrians (aka known as Parsees). I know they migrated, I do not know the reason. When they landed in India, they gave an undertaking to the king of the place that religious conversion was not their agenda. To this day - they hold that promise. If you are not born Parsee, you can not become a Parsee.

Many good friends of mine are Parsees, and they are like any other person.

BTW - the term Parsee is fairly generic - there are 2 variations - in india we differentiate between Parsee and Irun (Iranian). They both pray to Zarathustra - hence the generic term Zoroastrian. Its something similar to Catholics and Protestants both being Christians.
