The 35W Bridge Disaster
buzz.mn

I went to school at the U of M and have driven over this bridge hundreds of times.
Use to bike below it on the beautiful trail which follows West Mississippi Road.

This will be a major disruption for commerce in and around the twin cities area for months to come.
Having seen the gritty underside of the bridge, I personally think it was a structural failure.. bwdik

The bridge was open girder construction, which means birds, such as pigeons, can get inside the girders and make a home, and bird poop is highly acidic, causing rust, so I'm wondering if this could be a contributing factor to the collapse?
