Fine. Then what is the explanation for the Congress dragging their feet on the FISA problem? This isn't a matter of "our freedoms" as it involves monitoring non-Americans in foreign lands. Re. the quote, the sentiment sounds ok, but consider also that there is another famous quote that is even more relevant, that the Constitution is not a suicide pact. In almost every war, there have been "freedom" issues - see Lincoln suspending habeas corpus, the Japanese-American internments, the Alien & Sedition Acts, etc. None of them have produced lasting loss of our freedoms. We shouldn't bind ourselves from defending the nation due to imaginary worries about "our freedoms".
