I like stigma.

I think unwed mothers should see more of it. And folks who engage in other irresponsible behaviors, whatever they might be. And people who don't feed their kids well. I don't want it to be a crime to raise your kids on white sugar and potato chips, or formula, but not give people the cold shoulder? That seems a little too kind and gentle to me.

Think of the WIC savings. Reagan would be all over that. "Make those welfare queens nurse", he'd say. :-) (I jest- Reagan would never say the word "breast")

I haven't followed this line of discussion as it seems somewhat unimportant, but how exactly - or why, for crying out loud - does anyone label someone a 'bad mother' if she doesn't breast feed?

This aspect of the discussion does interest me b/c my wife was unable to breast feed. It was somewhat upsetting to her at the time, but ultimately unimportant as our son is in the upper 90th percentiles of everything that matters, intellectually and physically, i.e., he is a strapping and smart kid.

I guess I can tell my wife that he'd be in college as a 10 year old if she had been able to breast-feed. I'll wear a helmet during that conversation.

Totally agree with that Rambi.
