It was this approach that got us into our present Public school system mess. It would work much better on a private basis

Even if we could start from scratch with a private school system, we as citizens would still need to keep an eye on things to make sure the system was working because it is in our interests to have educated generations coming behind us. Setting up a private school system doesn't enable us to wash our hands of other people's children. Those children are a national resource and a personal resource for each of us.

I'm not advocating rampant interference, only recognizing that "it takes a village," independent of its political baggage, is not a ridiculous statement. In my condo pool yesterday I cautioned some kids about throwing hard objects. That doesn't make me a socialist.
