Setting up a private school system doesn't enable us to wash our hands of other people's children. Those children are a national resource and a personal resource for each of us.

This is the attitude that causes the problem.

Regarding children as State assets does, however. You don't need a government oversight committee where parents, even a minority of parents, are involved in the operation of the school boards and can vote with their dollars.
