Yes, you are basically correct in that the USMC did have "draftees" during WWII. BUT, they were a little different in that they were not drafted specifically into the USMC but AFTER they were drafted were given the OPTION to go into the USMC rather then the Army. I agree that IF we get into another World War we surely will need to reinstitute the draft. However, how much longer can this Iraqi thing go on. Seems to me, win or lose, we are gonna be pulling down forces considerably by 2008 just because of politics. I also think that its highly unlike we will ever get into another large land mass war like a typical WW. Rather we will be fighting terrorism on a smaller scale all over the globe. I happen to agree with you that IMHO we need far more SPECIAL FORCES and probably USMC (which I believe to also be better trained for this type of conflict then the Army). But not so much the CANNON FODDER type troops the Army gets from Draftees. To get over this HUMP I like the idea of paying BONUS'S to get the right kind of people. I also WISH that the US GOVT would CLAMP DOWN on school districts that are making it damn near impossible for Recruiter to recruit. That is so UNAMERICAN than I AS A TAXPAYER really RESENT my taxes going to those ASSHOLES. jdn
