Christians met several times to agree on what books to include in the Bible. The conference in Nicea in the fourth century resulted in the Nicean Creed which is still recited in mainline Christian worship services. If muslims wish to be considered a mature religion they may wish to confer and cleanse the quran of references that call for hateful behavior. Your post ignored what appears to me to be valid points. I will agree that the response may be overboard, but the quran does have more than a little in common with mein kampf.

Religious persecution is nothing new, especially when a minority religious group begins to integrate into the majority. History lesson number 1 from History of the World 101. Historically, it generally happened a lot faster than in the Netherland's case. There, you have have 40 years of "nice" of tolerance to the point of self-subjegation on the part of the Dutch. Only now are you getting a few voices raised in real protest. It's not as if this pol has a majority of the vote. It's news that he dares to propose intolerance against Islam at all. What is needed for the Dutch and all of the Europe to remind Muslims that respect and tolerance is a two way street. It's not natural to Islam at all to respect other religions or cultures, so it will need real pressure if it's to happen.
