One thing I have noticed is that: Don't believe analysts target price of 55 - 60. They have been saying that the past 3 years. Target price means the expected price 12 months from now.

Analysts generally are bullish on the stock since they want business from the company like underwriting secondary offerings, selling put options - like what QCOM had been doing, stock buy backs which was announced but had not seen executed, etc. Would a company like QCOM uses a investment banker for its business if the analyst of that bank is bearish on the stock.

Its all about dollars and sense.

QUALCOMM IPR in 3GPP Standards

Mindy,

<< ERIC are you saying that QCOM IPR was or was NOT included in the GSM/EDGE standard and UMTS. >>

I'm saying neither.

While I didn't say it in the prior post, I can say that QUALCOMM made no declarations of having essential IPR in the GSM Phase 2+ (GSM/GPRS/EGPRS) GERAN standards until 2004. They made no other public claims of having essential IPR in the GSM Phase 2+ (GSM/GPRS/EGPRS) standards until they asserted claims of GSM/GPRS/EGPRS IPR infringement against Broadcom in July of 2005, and subsequently against Nokia in November 2005 and celebrated those claims in press releases I've cited prior. Some of the patents they declared as essential to the GSM Phase 2+ (GSM/GPRS/EGPRS) standards were declared as early as 2001 as being essential to the 3GPP 3G (UMTS) standards.

There is a listing here of the patents initially asserted against Nokia with patent number, patent date, ETSI declaration date, etc. ...

There may be typos in the above list. Some of the individual patent infringement claims against Nokia have subsequently been dropped.

<< I can NOT make heads or tails out of your comments. >>

Sorry about that.

Best,
