One step at a time. China has bigger environmental problems to deal with than "global warming."

For example, I can guarantee you that yellow dust storms are more real to over a billion people than some global warming "bogeyman."

Again, at some point peak oil is an issue, if it isn't already. At some point, they will have to move beyond oil. Coal is a little different, but if the alternatives are cheaper, they will move beyond that also. And they will be cheaper.

I think one of the consequences of peak oil will be an increase of the greehouse gasses, rather than decrease, IMO. The reason is that there are areas where coal can replace oil and there is more CO2 emitted per the amount of energy produced from coal than from oil (because of higher hydrogen content in oil).

So as long as nuclear industry is paralyzed by the "environmentalists" things are not going to be getting any better for the environment regarding greenhouse gasses.

Well, one thing going for China is that they are free to build whatever plants are the cheapest and most efficient (which will of course turn out to be nuclear) without much interference from the environmentalists.
