Until relatively recently, say the 1970s, Texas was primarily rural and most people were fairly poor. So the military was a common way off the farm. When you have family members in the military, you tend to believe in it.

Which makes Harris' contention that I would spit on returning vets even more stupid than usual. I have family in the military.

And that explains this statement of his.

You see radical pacifism as every bit as dangerous as militarism. This does not, however, in your opinion justify any given decision to go to war.

You fight when you have to. But only when there is no other choice. War very well may be diplomacy by other means. But it isn't a game.

Beats me. I never learned it, although I know it exists. Now, we did sing the state song often enough that I memorized it.

I like his statement about the Libertarian Party. That is exactly how I feel.
