Based on its history, porno purveyor most likely imagined the person.

My friendship with the Colonel from Fallujah was reported in great detail when I was hanging out with him. So F you, you twit. You know nothing about the military and Bush is the most pethatic commander in chief in US history. Everyone knows that.

Me and the Colonel spent a lot of time together talking about Iraq and I also quizzed another Colonel who was stationed in Kuwait. Both guys are the honest intelligent types, not radical dishonest ideological extremists like you. They are the ones who know how to run things, the ones we need running things, and they were both extremely disgusted by the Bush-cheney regime's corruption of our military, especially by throwing hundreds of billions at Halliburton types to try and privatize it with corrupt cronies and cold-blooded killers loyal to no one but their paymasters.

Remember too, almost all the generals have been against Bush-Cheney. Every time one retires and can speak out, they usually do, One top general recently called Bush AWOL on the war on terror and a complete failure as commander in chief. That's something you rightwingers imagine them saying about liberals, but it's your rightwing corruption and incompetence which is the real enemy of our military. Bush has hurt out military far more than any Al Qaida attacks.

Ann,

American Spirit's "Colonel," or "Colonel Rick," as he referred to him last year, is a figment of his imagination, inspired by the writings of Dick Marcincko. If the "Colonel" is real, Mr. Spirit needs to provide us with a name.

From last December:

I admit to being easily amused, which explains why I periodically feel compelled to check in on American Spirit. It is always a challenge, a quite frustrating challenge I might add, to try to filter out the fact from the fiction in his postings. A few days ago, he was expressing enthusiasm for the writings of Dick Marcinko, a/k/a the (self-described) “Rouge Warrior.”

I like to read Dick Marcincko (sic) books, but in those books only the really bad guys get the extreme prejudice treatment. In reality it's never so black and white. Sometimes our far rightwing warriors do very bad things. But the blame for that falls upon those who are in command. Even dirty Dick Marcincko types basically follow orders.

(For the moment I will disregard the fact that American Spirit has periodically suggested that Dick Cheney and George Bush need to be taken out with “extreme prejudice.”)

Because I have never read anything by Marcinko, I checked out his Wikipedia bio. He is a very intense guy, not the sort of writer that one would expect to appeal to Mr. Spirit.

Okay, so we know that American Spirit has always been obsessed with conspiracy theories, including my personal favorite, the one that postulates that Sirhan Sirhan murdered Robert Kennedy as part of a CIA or FBI plot. Could Marcinko’s books have inspired these conspiracy theories.

And who is this “Ranger Rick” that Mr. Spirit met earlier this year? Are "Rick" and "Dick" the same guy with a few embellishments? Are we talking "Final Fantasy: The American Spirit" edition?

Quit smearing Army Ranger Colonel Rick, you lousy chickenhawk slimeball. He's my firend, (sic) he's a real hero and he deserves a voice on SI and across the country. He was one of the commanders in Fallujah, did 16 months in Iraq and is simply reporting the Bushie failures, corruption and dishonesty he witnessed personally which made his job a lot more difficult.
