As harsh as it sounds I have to agree with you here. Pearl for instance didn't even need to be in the ME and put himself in danger by doing so. The 9-11 victims are just that, victims of a terror attack.

Putting your name on the dotted line and saying I am willing to go where you send me and die if that is necessary more fits the theme of heroic.
