I've been going to NM for years. Santa Fe was always nice but VERY expensive. I remember when TAOS was only a spot on the map, now ITS the up and coming ARTSY community and for some reason, once its ARTSY its EXPENSIVE. Both are far cooler in the winter then Las Cruces. jdn

Yep, the area around Santa Fe is pretty, no doubt. I don't know how much time you plan to spend in the area, but if you have time, you'll enjoy taking an excursion either west or north of Santa Fe, either in the Chama region, or around Taos. Beautiful country.

I usually don't recommend to any out-of-staters that they get off the interstates in NM, though. We'd prefer outsiders to think that the deserts you see from the highway is what all of the state is like. That's how we keep the state's population low. <G>

Reminds me of something I once heard a park ranger say: "with the construction of the US Interstate Highway System, you can now drive coast to coast and not see a damn thing."
