The comparison is bad. Putting down peoples faith is a lot more common and more socially tolerated than using the "n" word.

Using the latter could get you banned from SI, for example. The former won't.

Yes, I know. People use the "n" word, too. But we're not supposed to. It's in bad taste.

Whereas implying that Christian "fundamentalists" are just one teeny step away from being as bad as Islamic "fundamentalists" (they're both fundamentalists, aren't they?) is done all the time in all the right thinking circles of the MSM, who think religion should have disappeared entirely as an influence by now.
