Wow...thats just shocking! Usually (unless its just me) mechanical/exterior issues are given at least 1 chance to be fixed before a ticket. What if your plate had simply fallen off while driving? It seems to me a front plate is an easy thing to not notice as missing. I removed mine (because I think they look ugly) years ago. When I got pulled over I knew what I was going to say and I was given 7 days to fix it. I had to take the car to a police station and have an officer sign off that it was done and that was it. To me that seems like the only fair thing to do. Moving traffic violations can have a negative impact on your car insurance and insurance companies don't overlook tickets very often anymore. For that reason I think police have got to be fair and differentiate between a driving offense and something thats really pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Did you go to court on this thing? I have to believe had I gone to court (provided I didn't get lippy and emotional) that I'd have been able to talk my way out of a ticket had I been issued one. Your situation sounds like a money grab by big brother
