They will temporarily shut down most industry and traffic within a hundred miles to clean up the place.

They could have picked a better site IMO but it has so many touristy sites close by and the Tienanmen Square, Mao , Wall Forbidden City Summer Palace etc etc.. all going on.. The weather will likely be hot and horribly humid which sure won't help. We were lucky as it was just 30C and under but we hit the 40 mark in Shanghai. The humidity is oppressive even with clean air..

I don't dispute the pollution Bill, just the presentation that is so often spun in the media as if no one there cares or is addressing it as it spirals out of control...

Geez just checked... I haven't posted here since 04.. not that I've posted a lot.. I do remember the first time I posted here and shot from the lip... I was given the chance to shoot myself or behave with more decorum .. always the better route :O)

The main complaint I constantly read about is the pollution. And they say that Beijing is among the worst

Having traveled to Beijing, Seoul, Hanoi, Bangkok, and Singapore numerous times between 1990-2000, Bangkok wins my vote for the worst pollution. They had more two cycle motorcycles than citizens in those days.

The Thai taxi drivers had a terrific skill in making the 4 lane highway to Don Muang Airport into 6 lanes. It was a close your eyes trip in the 90's.
