Z.."I'd try too, I think"

Yeah, we ALL would if we were "worth our salt". BUT, does that mean you'd be in favor of just letting in 200 million South and Central Americans?

We can't just take in EVERYBODY, even if we'd like to. The BEST way to handle immigration is to CONTROL it and you can't control it if you can't control your borders.

I'd like the Southern border closed off COMPLETELY and then we could accept immigrants on an orderly basis. People could apply for visas and businesses could make sure there were opportunities available for the people coming in.

In every single Latino community in S. CA, there are Latino gangs. And they are spreading throughout the West.

And that's just because there are more and more of them, and they're mostly really poor. But it's an endemic societal thing. It's not so much that they're Latino, it's that they're poor, and we just in general don't deal with our poor very well.

Your ancestors were poor when they first came to this country. Did they form gangs? I know mine didn't.

I am telling you, Z, you need to find out more about this subject before coming to your conclusions.

I just don't see why they have any less of a right to be here than we do. They happened to have been born on the bad side of an arbitrary border.

Because they are not citizens of this country. You are speaking as if we have a world gov't or that N. America has turned into the EU. And if you think N. America is ready to be another EU think again. The reason why the EU requires that fairly high economic and social parameters be met before a country can join is because they are trying to level the playing field as much as possible. True......Romania can't make up the ground between it and Germany in just a few years but a country like Romania has to be able to show it is on the way before it can enter the EU. Otherwise, there would have been a flood of Romanians into Germany as soon as the ink on the admission papers had dried and that would overwhelm the German economy.

Aside from the concern over terrorism, a porous southern border is allowing a flood of people to enter this country, and at the end of the day, its not to our benefit. And why are there so many from the South ready to flock to the US? Sure its because they are poor but its also because their gov'ts are not doing their job. Its because the elite in those countries are hoarding all the wealth. Think of the current tax cut situation in the US only a hundred times worse. When its leaders do the right thing, then the wealth gets distributed better......like with Costa Rica. If all the countries south of us were like Costa Rica, I would want to set up a North American EU asap. Unfortunately, CR is the outlier nation, not the norm.

I've said it before and I say it again.......allowing so many illegals into this country gets the corrupt gov'ts of Mexico and Central America off the hook. Frankly, I don't see why we should be helping them when they are screwing over their own people.

Z, I think you are very idealistic but that is not always a good thing.

As for the rest of the thread, I would really like to hear what you all think. If I am off base, then let me know. TIA.
