>I have no problem with gay Republicrooks. What I have is a problem with gay Republicrooks who preach solemnly about family values, the abomination of gay marriage and civil unions, and the sanctity of marriage.<

I think the whole concept of marriage needs to be redefined.

There should be religious marriages and "state" civil unions, but no "state" marriages. They should be considered equal under "state" law but unequal in the eyes of the religions that think homosexuals should not be allowed to be married.

Once people admit the two are not equal to begin with (and they really aren't equal to anyone that is religious anyway), then religious people have nothing to complain about and gays get access to all the legal rights they are now denied.

However, if homosexuals insist on calling unions done by the "state" marriages, all they are doing is antagonizing the people that think homosexuality is a psychological or genetic disorder, a sin etc... and not equal to heterosexuality. That invites hostility. And round and round we go.

It's one thing to insist on equal rights. It's another to insist that religious people consider your lifestyle equal. That's no better than ramming religion down a non-religious person's throat. Gays should simply be fighting for civil unions. That's all they need to satisfy their legal concerns.

For the life of me I can't see why homosexuals would want to be republicans to begin with. If you are gay and believe in low taxes, small government, strong "defense", and other traditional republican values etc... then there's a much better home for you in the libertarian party. Libertarians don't care who you screw.
