I guess until technology catches up with mining disasters, these will continue to happen. You would think that if they can put a robot on Mars and explore hundreds of miles of territory that is millions of miles away from the Earth that you could develop something that could be dropped down one of those holes and go through tunnels that are only a couple of thousand feet down! Even if they had to drill a bigger hole, it would be better than what they did!
