if Hamas were to declare Gazastan an independent nation, what would that say about the rest of Palestine 'from the river to the sea' and the 'occupation of 48' and the 'occupation of 67' that they have so often sworn to overthrow?

If Hamas were to declare themselves the independent nation of Gazastan it would equate to abandoning claim to the other parts of Mandatory Palestine (as you call it, by which I think you mean Israel + WB + Gaza). Exactly. That would be good for Israel, as it would provide them with another neighbor Arab country that acknowledges and accepts Israel. So...why is Israel pursuing the one contiguous Pal nation concept rather than encouraging an independent Gazastan?

The answer to that has to do with the question I asked about the PA: why didn't they declare the nation of Palestine?
Why should they? The land belong to them, they are already a nation, mind you, occupied by Israel but never the less they are a nation. You seem to forget that little fact. Here its Nadine, Palestine belong to the Palestinians not the Israelis. You keep forgetting that bit of fact.
