Not sure what the Iraq parliamentarians where doing during their "vacation" but I've heard everything from going abroad for some fun and sun to traveling from neighborhood to neighborhood talking to the Iraqi people and getting a feel for how they want their nation run. Just like American congress people do on their summer vacation.

Haven't found any information on line, just a few snippets from the radio, so who knows?

Cant people understand that EVEN if Bush intends to withdraw troops in the near future HE CANT ANNOUNCE THAT. To do so IMHO would invite disaster for OUR TROOPS in the field. The way to have a successful withdrawal is to put up a good front while you slowly pull down the supporting troops then once it become obvious you OUGHT to be close to achieving the goal. To announce a long gradual withdrawal months in advance IMHO is downright dangerous. jdn

We had a fish fry at the lake this weekend and I got to meet one of our new folks. Turns out he is a active army weapons instructor who is now stationed at Ft McCoy training guardsman that are heading to Iraq. He echoed much of what you've been saying and went so far as to say the guard will be destroyed if this continues much longer. He said they are offering up to 100K for enlistment in SF. As you well know it takes a special person to be SF and I don't think throwing money around is going to fix that and he thought the same. He also is thinking something needs to change and change soon.

Worse yet though is he was a student of the ME and of Islam. Having been in GW1 and now 2 and having met many of these folks we are saving he holds little hope for a single peaceful country. He said it's just not in their make up at this point. We expect them to behave like us and make moral judgements the way we do and they are operating under a whole different set of rules and guidelines. Just isn't going to happen in his opinion.

Not a real rosy picture according to him.
