I am bringing alive this old topic on insurance and portability. The problem with the analysis here is that you cannot quit, move to a new state and self-insure as no COBRA/guaranteed acceptance on old terms would apply. The US does need to divorce the insurance from the job so folks can quit and move on as necessary. This does not require national healthcare but simply a change to individual policies with tax deductions for some amount as has been proposed by Bush. Jon
