Besides more expensive CA cabs, like "Mondavi Private Reserve" I must admit that most of the wine in my San Diego cellar is Italian.
No French at all.
In Europe I hold 95% Italian and 5% prime Burgundy only because I have been a customer same place for 25 years and know the sales man too well just to cut him off.
Drinking wine price range just like you but sometimes also cheaper, like a "St. Christina" from Antinori, which is <7$ at Traders Joe.
