"The people of Canada and Alberta own the oil, not the oil companies."

I read that it's all owned by the aboriginals, and so is the land your home is on. Give it back. Set an example for those greedy oil companies.

Robin, It's from this post Message 23895778

No matter how much they make or the price of oil there is a certain % royalty beyond which it just does not pay. Then maybe the government will take it over. What do ya figure we will get out of it then in benefits to the populace ? more likely a money loser in the end ?... supported with taxes coming from productivity elsewhere...

We have duty to future generations to conserve, each and every one of us... not pass the buck to the oil companies beyond reason. How about mandating all cars must be hybrids in 10 years ? That'd chop city driving consumption drastically.. How about taxing the crap out of every single vehicle ? How about increasing the taxes at the pump... again.. How about tolls on all roads.. We subsidize the trucking industry already through highway maintenance .. Why is most transport not by rail down the Windsor, Quebec City corridor ? These folks are looking for the easy way out... There is none. We all need to change...

Just as a point of reference... I'm no liberal or conservative.. I've voted Liberal, PC, Alliance, Conservative, NDP (I voted Rae) and even PQ once ! I guess I vote for the guys that are pi$$ing me off the least.. I'd like a lot less government, OTOH I think we need better public health care and better public education.. Some things should not be left up to I'm alright jack

I can verify that. The infrastructure of northern Alberta cannot keep up with the influx of people and money, and it is going to cost billions upon billions to remedy the effects of oil sands extraction, or at least those can be remedied.
