10/12/07 update
Italy was wonderful. We lucked out on the weather, had some fabulous food along with enjoying magnificent art. The prices, of course, were crazy, the prime example being a $126 (after Euro conversion) restaurant charge for a small fish priced by the gram (hopefully, that fish wasn't loaded with heavy metals). Stupid me didn't ask them to weigh the fish beforehand and give me the total cost. Aside from the price, the fish was nothing special, but the "reasonably" priced linguini with clams at the same restaurant was the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, getting back home was a grueling ordeal, with long plane delays (4.5 hours in the plane on the ground in Rome) resulting in a missed connection and our arrival a day later than planned. Not surprisingly, with so many hours breathing the awful cabin air, I got a bad cold (thankfully, it seems to be gradually dissipating). Nonetheless, the trip was certainly worth a little tsuris at the end and my stocks did well while I was gone. So, I shouldn't complain too much.
The Nasdaq Biotech Index also had an excellent few weeks, closing Friday up 12.16% YTD (vs. up 6.27% YTD three weeks ago). Regrettably, the same was not true for the smaller-cap Charity Contest portfolios. At Friday's close, the Contest portfolios' median loss was -6.78% YTD (vs. down -6.66% YTD three weeks ago).
At week's end, 11 of the 31 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD, with a measly 3 of the 31 beating the NBI. Much to my amazement, I'm the third of those three (up 15.6% YTD), with TECHNET's portfolio (up 31.2% YTD) still in first place and MOPGCW (up 17.6% YTD) in second place.
Have a great weekend everyone!
