Confirmation is good, but I didn't suspect you were of that camp. Unfortunately, though, many on the political right DO consider those who disagree with them to be, therefore, un-Christian.

The bottom line to me is that bringing religion into politics is more often than not an appeal to authority argument - that is, fallacious. One should be able to defend one's policy positions on their own merits, on how they impact the welfare and liberty of individuals, not on whether someone's revelations about God 2000 years ago (or 1400 years ago), as subsequently translated and interpreted, might be construed so as to justify doing what you want regardless of the impact on others.
