What he/they have done is coopt the communist/left position on israel and american imperialism, thus the inroads with the left. He stupidly pandered to the racists with the holocaust denial garbage. I dont think he believes that for a minute or his background and lack of formal education along with hatred of israel led him down this path. Remember it wasnt so long ago, pat buchanan was a denier. Remember all those tales how zyclon gas couldnt have killed all those people. Anyway a light hearted moment which says a lot in the Q&A. Ahamadidjad was asked about persecution of homosexuals in iran. He smilingly replied that there are no homosexuals in iran because iran was islamic country. He bought into that whole homo is by choice thing that the christian right has used in the past. Anyway the college crowd who at least knows better on this subject broke into loud laughter. Ahmadijad has a faux smile on his face. He couldnt imagine what he had said that was so funny. These dudes are primitives indeed but I dont see that blood lust that you see when looking at bin laden, zawahiri, attah and zarquawi. We got to separate the two strains of fundamentalism and keep them apart even if we have to deal with the lesser of the two evils as we did in WW2 by choosing to ally with stalin over hitler. No matter how many hundreds or a few thousand folks iran has killed, we should aways remember that stalin has already killled tens if not hundreds of thousands of civilians when we partnered with him. He also had teamed with hitler to destroy poland.
