We're "arbitrary" because we don't want countries invaded, shipping shut down, and madmen with nukes? So be it. Pullleaze........I am not buying that spin so what makes you think the rest of the world is. Its not spin that Saddam invaded two neighboring countries. Its fact. And its not spin that he was contained and prevented from invading countries again. Its fact. He was contained and prevented from invading other countries but that containment and prevention involved US troops in Kuwait and SA and the whole Muslim world believing we were killing 50K Iraqi babies every year. You have previously argued our troops in SA were an unconsciouable provocation that offended the Muslim world and produced terrorism, yet now you are citing the containment of Saddam (which included our troop presence) as a good thing which made the removal of Saddam unnecessary. You don't mind contradicting your own positions do you or do you realize that you have? ------------------------------------------------- You're wrong to say the rest of the world wants America to appease regimes like Iraq's and Iran's. Much of the world is counting on us doing the dirty work of preventing them from messing things up. Starting in the 1920s, the Palestinians were on the losing end of most skirmishes between the two groups. If there were any innocents, it was the Palestinians, not the Zionists. The Zionists were sophisticated people from Europe.....the Palestinians were mostly farmers and ranchers. That isn't factual. Arabs wiped out the centuries old Hebron Jewish community. A number of other Jewish communities were wiped out or driven out. The Jewish population of Jerusalem was almost cut off and put in danger of destruction. A number of villages in Galilee that had held a Jewish peasant population which had never left Palestine were driven out of their homes by Arab violence. You argue Jews shouldn't have formed a state and then claim they would have been able to defend themselves without a state and army of their own. The Arab population would never have allowed a single Jew to live in Palestine if the Jews hadn't made their own state and army. How many Jews did Jordan allow to remain in the Arab portion of Palestine? None. ----------------------- Yes, buy it on an open market. Which is what we do, contrary to leftist propaganda. By 1998, they had accounted for 95% of the weaponry. Not according to the Clinton administration, which bombed Iraq in 1998 and tried to go to war with Iraq that year. Which is why the Clintons and Clinton era intelligence officials like Tenet and Pollack supported the war. --------------------------------------- Bush didn't announce Saddam had bought yellow cake, he said they'd tried to buy it. Which was true - unless you think the Iraqi trade delegation to Niger was after more dates and camels. Joe Wilson, a Republican, was sent to Niger to verify that info. He never was able to verify it. But it made a great soundbite and helped freak out Americans, encouraging them to go to war....but you see nothing wrong in that. Wilson isn't a Republican. Nor is his wife. He was sent to Niger on a boondoggle which accomplished nothing except confirming that Iraq had sent a trade mission to Niger (which has uranium, camels, and dates and thats about it to sell). Think Iraq was shopping for dates and camels? ------------------------- In fact, Bush and Cheney worked very hard to convince a reluctant America to go to war. So did the Clinton administraton. So did Kenneth Pollack, who'd worked in that administration. Not to mention "Slam Dunk" George Tenet. Nope. No one worked as hard as Cheney/Bush. Its disgusting how badly they wanted to go to war. It makes me sick! You're a partisan looking for excuses for your pathological hostilities. Tenet and Pollack pushed hard for the war. Pollack's book convinced me. ---------------------------------- What phony tactics. You have said Osama and al Qaida have legitimate greivances against us and attacked us because we were in the wrong. Excuse me. Show me where I said that. What I have said is that you stick your nose in a beehive, you get stung. Is that simplistic enough of an image for you to understand. In plenty of past posts, you said we shouldn't have had troops in SA and that our presence there was a provocation against he whole Muslim world. That we shouldn't have let Israel come into existence. That we shouldn't have intervened when Saddam invaded Kuwait and that the Arab world hated us for that intervention. You've presented everything we've ever done in the ME as wrong and as a provocation. Why back away from your positions now?
