Are you outing Brian? Brian and you shared many views back in the day. Remember he was a pacifist back then. Personally i think he overreacted to 9/11 and draws with a very wide brush. But I also think you underestimate the threat from radical islam.
As an aside did you see the NYTimes op ed with the iran bloggers commments last week? Quite amazing. Their reaction to ahmadijad in US is like US bloggers reaction to bush. But similarity ends there because ahamdijad is ruled himself by mostly evil ayotollas. Bush otoh will be gone in a little more than a year and probably replaced by the other party. Thats whats missing in iran--the other party. Iran reminds me of USSR where nationalism and communism made it difficult to deal with them. In iran its nationalism and radical shiaa islam. US needs to not be on the wrong side of iranian nationalism and we should concentrate on the mullocracy and a more secular state or even more moderate islamic state for the future. I think we will be getting islamic states throughout the region. The trick is that islamic states doesnt necessarily mean what folks like brian now think they do.
