I am going to say this and leave.

Human beings are human beings are human beings. By and large and with far too few exceptions, human beings act on instincts and then find justifications for those actions.

Americans torturing Iraqis in Abu Ghurayb is junior personnel misconduct to most here and proof of American's savage nature and lack of civilization and culture elsewhere.

Iraqis head hacking and car bombing is gruesome terrorist acts here and proof of Islam as a violent religion etc. And it is fighting for freedom and one's way of life elsewhere.

Homeland Security turning someone's life upside down and sending him to Syria or Egypt to be tortured or otherwise detaining him without charges and ability to address those charges, is being prudent and measure to fend off extreme danger here (at least for some).

The same thing done by an out of favor country is proof of their utter disregard for human rights and their "evilness".

Christian Yugoslavians (Serbs) committing war crimes against Muslims Yugoslavians (Bosnians) is a local "ethnic" conflict in some circles and an expression of global religious crusades elsewhere.

Reagan funding and training Nicaraguan terrorists and criminals is America's support of "freedom fighters".

Iran doing the same for Hamas is state sponsorship of international terrorism.

The list goes on and on.

Most people first choose their side and then find support for their position. Since their position was never formed through an objective and thoughtful examination of facts in the first place, it is futile to try to use facts and logic to get them to change.
