Your mindset, or wanting to hold on to specific types of jobs would have left us with three quarters of Americans working on farms.

That's not even close to what I said.

Its not directly what you said, and I didn't quote you as saying any such thing. What I did post was that your mindset would lead to such a thing. If "loosing" any jobs was something that we had to work hard to avoid than you get stagnation. The reality is that in the long run "losing jobs" is a good thing. It means that you don't need as many people to do the work that used to be done, and those people can do additional work, adding to total production and wealth creation.

I wasn't thinking in terms of cutting people because of productivity gains. I was thinking in terms of employers who offshore large numbers of jobs that would normally go to Americans. Management's argument for doing so is so that they can stay competitive in a global economy but that doesn't stop them from giving themselves plush offices and huge salaries and bonuses.

I find this mindset to be obnoxious. Management's lack of loyalty to their birthing country in order to line their own pockets is encouraging an adverserial relationship between 'the people' and the companies. At one time, unions kept corporations somewhat responsible to their employees and their communities. No longer. I don't know what the solution is but I know the problem is not good.
