I can't imagine Apple taking it that far, but I do think Apple is not above doing it when it makes sense.

Most of the controversial decisions that Apple has made lately havent been clear cut. In each case, there has likely been a reason for Apple to take the path they have chosen (whether monetary or strategic). However, taken together, it doesnt make Apple look very good when they are making so many decisions that are perceived as anti-consumer. Perhaps the bar is set higher for Apple, but that is the price you pay when your brand is based on a bit of a renegade, "Think Different" type of spirit.

More broadly, I really think that there is a backlash against Apple brewing among the cutting edge consumers. The posts and blogs have quite a different tone than anti-Apple complaints in years past. The evidence is obviously anecdotal, but I hope Apple is paying attention.
