Ted, > How do you know?

I know plenty of Christian missionaries who have traveled to politically unstable regions. None of them carried any weapons.

What does carrying weapons have to do with extreme thinking or attitudes?

> Any effort which involves going into war torn Afghanistan and try and convert Taliban/Afghans to Christianity has to be viewed as extreme. What makes you think their attitudes weren't extreme as well?

I fully expect extremists like the Taliban to view peaceful Christian missionaries as extremist.

There was nothing peaceful about the Christian missionaries. They went into a country of which part is at war with Christian based nations. You can't be considered very peaceful if you go into a nation espousing the views of their enemy.

The Taliban obviously don't want to see any of their people exposed to anything but their own fundamentalist point-of-view.

Just as you all don't want to see their POV.

The Christian missionaries went to help those people see beyond what the Taliban wants them to see. Grassroots change is a powerful force against repression. Why call that desire "self-centered" and "arrogant"?

Its always arrogant to think you may have the lock on all that's true. Taliban Islam may not be good for Afghans but western Christianity may be no better. In fact, I think the Afghans would be best served without religion right now. They need to stabilize their country economically instead of worrying which God is the most potent.

To me, the truly self-centered and arrogant are those who do nothing but complain about those who want to do something.

Maybe...if all they do is complain.
