<<Seems to me people have been on the earth a helluva lot of years, and it's only in the very recent history of humankind there has been any talk about gays marrying.

I've always suspected, but I don't have any facts to back me up, that the gay marriage issue is really an economic issue. That is, there are economic benefits that you can only get if you're married.

This means that gay marriage transfers some costs to others, away from the concerned partners. For example, health insurance programs are geared for self-only, or self and family. One self and family policy costs less than two self-only policies.

Who pays for these shifted costs?

I think it is you and I who pay them, because if more people are covered under the coverage than previously the costs have to go somewhere.

I don't care what goes on behind closed doors, but I do care about people reaching into my pocket book.
