Usually, you plan your holiday within a ballpark of the date.

??? Where are you from? How often do you spend vacations meeting various members of your family where everyone is supposed to show up within the ballpark of the date? Have you made airplane reservations where the ticket works within a ballpark of a date? In most of the world, people are aware that Monday (for example) will be a national holiday years in advance, and if they want to take a 3 day weekend they plan it a week to 6 months in advance. There's nowhere outside of this region (that I am aware of) where people are aware in advance that either Monday or Tuesday, not sure which, will be a national holiday, and the final decision is not made until Sunday night. That's loopy. When vacation meant not tending the goat and walking over the sand dune to chat with Abdullah, that may have been fine. When vacation means an international fight to Karachi to meet mom and dad for three days, it's stupid.
