I told her ok with me but your paid education runs out after four years. You will have to figure out how to pay for the extra year. she snapped out of it quickly, added some courses and graduated in four years. After i got my degree in 10 years of nights(1972). My boss who had his mba didn't even bother to acknowledge it. His comments were the bs is not good enough to advance in this corp. when are you starting your grad work. I told him, never, if my previous track record of ten years with the corporation is not good enough for consideration for other positions and ten years of night school to show i can handle multiple tasks ,then i am leaving. I know of several top firms that would hire me in a minute based on my grades and degree from the college i attended. It was a cpa factory , all the accounting professors were from large public accounting firms and they used the college for recruitment. i had already been approached to go to work for one them. He was silent. He later got demoted. A wonderful person, spoke five languages , walked out of Russia as young boy, had several great jobs in the far east, but with all his worldly knowledge and experiences he had a problem , making a decision. I met dozens like him with great educational backgrounds, a lot more intelligent than me , book wise, but most could never come to a conclusion, a new manager came in, and the rest was like a rocket through the corp until retirement age 51 to give full time care to my wife sick after our third child. stress for some reason and taking decisive action when the operation is coming down on you doesn't seem to be learned in books rather through a serious of experiences.
