I remember that too, but these are pine needles. People burn them when they're wet, and they smoke up really bad. I wish they had spent the money teaching people to burn properly instead of banning burning altogether. There will be consequences of people not dealing with their yard debris. Some people never do it, and I've seen the fuel load in their back yards. It's scary. Ever see them make maple syrup? I think there are people up your way making birch syrup.
